How to make refried beans in the Instapot or pressure cooker unsoaked

What’s for dinner tonight? Well all out of the blue I shared some refried beans with family to try so I had none in the freezer. Making fresh refried beans without soaking them can lead to a disaster but I’m telling you can still not soak the beans and have perfect refried beans. What is the secret to warm very good refried beans it’s Bay leafs for most who do not cook beans with meat would never think of using a Bayleaf in a recipe for refried beans.

I have tried cooking beans in the pressure cooker before and I have to admit the first time I failed. It sucked for us for dinner but was able to find something else to eat. Anyways here is how to cook Pinto beans in the Instapot mine is a Crockpot pressure cooker there fairly inexpensive especially when you consider Christmas sales at Best Buy about $50. What a steal and came with a free item.

  • Amanda’s Recipe No soak Instapot Easy recipe

Wash with purified water  the 1/2 bag about 16 oz pinto beans in a strainer  and remove the halved beans those can become hard so that’s why you discard
Next set the beans in the Instapot. Pour the softened water or purified into the pressure cooker.
Add 2 cut up onions and 3 cloves garlic, a few bay leafs and some chilli powder 2 tbl.
Set pressurecooker for high heat, for 45 minutes with a pressure seal release at 10 minutes. Mine always goes to warm at this stage. Next release fully let all the air escape by putting the top button on steam to release the air and use a laddle spoon that has holes in it and just take a separate bowl and add the beans to the bowl and use a masher to mash up the beans add a little at a time, than use a hand mixer and add a big scoop of the bean water from a soup spoon to the bean bowl. Soon you’ll have good looking beans. Discard bay leafs do not mash those in with the beans.
